Meet Hostility with Kindness

The world we live in is full of hate. What would happen if we took that hate and returned it with kindness?

This public service announcement aims to teach young adults about the meaning of "Tikkun Olam" and how we can use this phrase to combat antisemitism with kindness and positivity. Tikkun Olam means that our differences bring us together. In this PSA, the goal is to first elicit the emotion of sadness by showing the headlines of a few of the many antisemitic attacks that have happened recently, and then to elicit hope that the world can be peaceful kind to everyone by just believing in the idea of Tikkun Olam. I chose to take a more of a peripheral route by appealing to emotion, while also giving some news headlines to display a small amount of a central route to persuasion. For a PSA like this, a peripheral route would be more beneficial because to elicit change, often times others need to be reminded of the pain caused by hatred. Even though we experience hate often, it is very possible for anyone to respond with kindness if we remember that educating others on our differences can help to bring us closer and create change. In order to educate others and bring about change in society, we first have to be educated on our own biases and prejudices so that we can work to overcome them rather than perpetuate them.
